So after seeing this abbreviation on Facebook a gazillion times I finally decided to google what it meant.
For those who don't already know, "HMU" stands for "Hit Me Up". Usually refers to a situation where someone is
bored and has nothing better to do than to ask (or beg, depending on how you look at it) people to
call/text/Facebook/tweet/blog/etc. them.
After reading the definition, I did a slight chuckle (quietly, as my sister was asleep next to me), and thought about how sad it was that people couldn't write out the four extra letters it would take them to fully spell out these words.
Then I thought about how people have caught onto the new trend of typingshortsentenceswithoutspaces.
I mean seriously, can you read that? I didn't think so.
And if you are one of those skilled enough to be able to read that, I bet it took you a few tries.
Oh and what is with the "#" in front of these sentence-phrase-words? I mean, come on people, a number is NOT a letter... ?
I know this seems like a bit of a rant--which in all reality, it is--but I just have to wonder what people are thinking.
The computer was made to make writing (and a lot of other things) faster and easier. Typing has already improved our speed and clarity--seriously, check out some people's handwriting...--so why do we feel the need to leave out essential parts of our English language, like spaces and letters.
No wonder English is one of the hardest languages to learn... people who are fluent in English don't even know how to use it.
