Eat Carbs, Lose Weight
Since I just posted one of my favorite recipes from Eat Carbs, Lose Weight by Denise Austin, I feel I should write a little post about this book.
After trying to lose weight by starving myself and killing myself working out, I finally came across this book (by the success of my lovely roommate Ilona.) After seeing her weight loss, while she was eating DELICIOUS foods every day, I finally decided that I would try to do this diet as well.
I've been on and off for about 3 weeks now (but really serious for about a week), and so far I have lost about 3 pounds. Not a huge loss, but considering how much I cheated, I'm feeling pretty good.
The thing about this book is that it not only teaches you how to eat right, but also it introduces you to foods you may never have thought of trying (brussels sprouts for instance--who knew they could be delicious?)
And, not only do you feel better about yourself, you also get to eat foods that don't even make you feel like you are on a diet. For example, for breakfast today I had pancakes... that I made myself! Who knew I could cook?
The introduction to the book is a detailed explanation of how carbs work and why they are so good for you. She also gives a workout routine (12 minutes) that she suggests you do everyday for maximum results. After the introduction, there is a meal plan. She gives a detailed breakdown of how many calories, carbs, fibers, etc. are in each food that you eat. The meal plan consists of three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and two snacks every day. Yeah, you have to cook a lot, but she provides you killer recipes that are simple and delicious. You even get dessert! And all of the food for each day stays around or under 1,300 calories. Perfect for weight loss!
Even if you don't want to lose weight, this book has a great way of showing you how to eat healthily without restricting yourself and cutting out the foods you love. Not only have I learned more about food and cooking, but also about eating right and eating good portions.
I would recommend this book to anyone!
What a great way to start the new year!
