Spread the Love

So I had a great conversation with a new-ish friend today about talent and life.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I believe that everyone was given a talent for a reason. Everyone has a talent and a wealth inside them that needs to be shared with the world--that is its purpose!
So as I talked with my friend Molly, I realized how much more this simple idea takes on.

Not only are you to share your talent, whatever it is--I believe mine is singing--with the world. But in order to do so, you must love yourself. And that includes your body.

How can you expect to do your best work and live to your full potential if you are constantly shooting yourself down. How can anyone be expected to do so? If a little boy is trying to play basketball, and you constantly tell him how awful he is at jumping, he will never get the shot. And even if he does, he won't feel the satisfaction of his success because he will believe that he is unworthy.

So maybe that was a bad analogy; but seriously, how can we be expected to do our best work, and feel gratification for the pleasures that successes bring if we constantly hate the medium through which our talents and our hearts are shared?

Thus, I have a new New Years Resolution. That is to love myself, not judge myself. My body is my body. I look the way I look for a reason. Life is not about starving yourself to fit what the world thinks you should be, or exercising to the point of exhaustion so that you have that six-pack.
Sure, it is important to set goals and to work hard to reach them, but is it really worth it to feel horrible about yourself if you have a few cookies or if you miss a few days at the gym?

The important thing to remember is health and fitness, not diet and exercise.

I am currently in the process of looking for opportunities to be a mentor to young women here in New York. I think the best way to start loving yourself is to love others.

And this all brings me to the point of this post: LOVE!

Yeah, I sound like a bit of a hippie, but come on people--the world is such a mean place these days. Is it worth it to try to force yourself to be something you aren't?
So try putting some good vibes out into the universe---LOVE YOURSELF!
